I’ve been watching Dan’s videos since 2022.
Ever since he first appeared on my YouTube recommended feed I’ve been hooked on his philosophy and insights into the creator economy and living a life of meaning to the fullest.
I’ve binged watched episode after episode, read his book cover to cover, and screenshot so many Instagram posts, it’s wild.
Dan’s message is simple enough.
If you don’t want to live the same boring existence as everyone else you need to:
Create a vision for your future.
Solve your own problems.
Document the process while you build a personal brand to show authority.
Sell the solutions to the problems you solved.
And all of those things begin with one simple thing - Writing.
Here’s how his advice completely destroyed my life (for the better).
Your efforts compound over time.
I’d been a chef for almost 10 years before Covid-19 hit Melbourne like a milk tanker hit’s a roadside gum.
I’d been clocking in up to 80 hour weeks with 40 hours pay all because my contract said so.
Never again.
At first I thought I wanted to change careers and find a nice office job.
Leave hospitality and go 9-5.
But I couldn’t do it.
I got wise to the creator economy.
Dan taught me that your efforts can compound over time.
Posting day after day, adds to the overall pool of knowledge that you’ve made available to your target audience.
One good post wont get you anywhere.
But 100 posts might.
And 1,000 quality posts shows people that you know your shit.
It’s all a numbers game.
And those numbers don’t require me to be in a certain location or clocking in a set amount of hours to swap for dollaridoos.
Help me out with the dollaridoos? Buy me a coffee
Knowing what you don’t want is more important than knowing what you do.
I’ve struggled to figure out what I want my life to look like.
But I 100% know what I don’t want.
Dan talks about creating an Anti-Vision for your future.
If there are things you hate about your life right now.
Or you despise the path you can see stretching out before you.
Good.
That’s your first problem to solve.
Work on changing it.
Document the process on the internet.
Help others fix the same problems you have worked to overcome.
Everything begins with writing.
Before I understood that we are now living in a new renaissance, I thought (like many of us) that you could only make money from writing if you were an author.
The typical path to a published author goes something like this:
➡️Struggle for years on manuscripts.
➡️Get rejected over and over by publishers.
➡️Finally land a book deal.
➡️Put book out into the world.
➡️Realise that royalties for books are terrible.
➡️Forced to keep day job in order to live.
➡️Repeats cycle or quits.
But I’ve realized this is no longer the case.
Everything in our world revolves around writing.
Whether that be texting our mates, emailing our boss, or searching the web for tentacle p*rn, we are writing all the time.
Dan made me realize that writing is the backbone for making money online.
Short form post - writing
Sales page - writing
Online course - writing
Newsletter - writing
YouTube script - writing
If you are good at writing then the world is at your fingertips.
And you don’t need to rely on 3rd parties to publish your work either.
You can do it all as a solopreneur on the internet for almost nothing.
This digital revolution will be lead by those that know how to write and sell.
I really believe that.
Build your thing and learn along the way.
I have been stuck in tutorial hell more times than I’d want to admit.
Stuck watching YouTube tutorials and reading books but never actually making progress on the goal I’d set out achieve in the first place.
Sometimes I’d even forget what the purpose of me consuming these were for.
Dan showed me that we learn through experience and not memorization.
If you just absorb information all day with out doing anything with it then that’s just mental masturbation.
Take action and even if you fail there is a lesson in it for next time.
So, now you are also wise to the creator economy.
Welcome to a whole new side of the internet.
Once I’d spent time absorbing Dan’s message my life was destroyed for the better.
Maybe I’ve just changed yours.
👉🏻 I’ve struggled in the past with keeping myself accountable and taking action towards my goals. But now it’s easy. If you want my system to gamify your life, I’ve created a notion template to track your world like in an MMORPG, use it and you’ll be clearing quests in no time.
